1. STCI Pilot testing & Call for Expression for Participation

ESOI in collaboration with GICIA India Pvt. Ltd. is currently seeking stakeholders input for STCI version zero and expression of interest to participate in the pilot testing of criteria and indicators developed for hotels and tour operators.

We extend the ESOI members the privilege of being the first businesses to be STCI pilot tested. This does not involve any financial commitment/implication on your part and shall involve a desk research as well as a site visit of your business premises by the inspection team. You shall get a detailed report of the Sustainability quotient of your business with respect to STCI and may be amongst the first few certification holders from the country, naturally leading to a number of other benefits

2.    State level Workshop on ‘Sustainable and Responsible Tourism’ at Chennai

Ecotourism Society of India ( ESOI) and Tamilnadu Tourism jointly hosted the State level Workshop on ‘Sustainable and Responsible Tourism’ , on Dec 22nd 2016. It was attended by over 100 members representing the Tamilnadu tourism,    Forest department and participants from the industry. ESOI was represented by Mr Steve Borgia, Mr. Jose Dominic, Ms Seema Bhatt and Dr Anjuna Dhir.    

3.     Workshop at TERI

ESOI participated in a workshop on ‘Sustainable Tourism’ organized by TERI on 28th November, 2016

4.     Launch of implementation of STCI with MOT

Secretary Tourism , Govt of India, launched the Implementation  of the Sustainable Tourism Criteria for India (STCI) in association with Ecotourism Society of India  (ESOI) on 19th October 2016 at Samrat hotel, New Delhi. It was attended by representatives from 20 state govts.

5.    Participation in BITB 2016

ESOI participated in BITB from 4th-6th October, 2016 in Delhi to showcase its activities and objectives to create awareness among the stakeholders.

6.    Signing of MOU with Ministry of Tourism, Govt of India
Ecotourism Society of India ( ESOI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Ministry of Tourism, Government of India to take its commitments to Responsible and Sustainable tourism to the next level. Through this agreement, MOT recognized ESOI as the partner in driving and advocating Sustainable Tourism Criteria for India (STCI) initiatives across the country. In this context ESOI will prepare a 10-year Road Map for advocacy and certification under the Sustainable Tourism Criteria for India. The Road Map will be based on regional workshops held with relevant stakeholders across the country. ESOI, through stakeholder consultations will formulate criteria and classification guidelines for certification for the accommodation and tour/travel operators within the STCI guidelines and later develop standards for Destinations which will also be in sync with the internationally accepted Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria.
